How to boost your self esteem on a Morning
When you wake up on a morning, what’s your first thought? When you get out of bed, pour yourself a coffee and think about the day ahead, what do you think about?
Our thoughts are the very things that set us up for the day ahead, good or bad. Our internal dialogue is like a personal radio station that is continually playing in our heads, and so it’s vital that we’re listening to ourselves speak well about our day, our character and our opportunities.
I’m not talking about manifesting or affirmations, but a deeper internal dialogue that comes from the absolute depths of who we are, where we’re wholeheartedly speaking life over ourselves.
When 2024 started, I realised that only 30 minutes into the new year I’d said something negative about myself, after taking a selfie with my nearest and dearest. I caught myself saying it and said ‘No! It’s 2024, no negativity for me!’. Now that’s not to say that we have to be practicing toxic positivity and that we can't have a bad day, but it does mean catching what we’re speaking over ourselves, which can in turn can help define the way we think and view who we are.
There’s a quote that I love that say’s ‘our words create worlds’.
Think about that for a second.
Your words create your world.
What world do you want to live in?
If your internal radio station is playing a narrative that basically says how ugly you are, how unworthy you are, how disappointing your life is, or how you don’t look like ‘her’, then it’s going to be a pretty negative headspace when it comes to living out the rest of your day.
When you look in the mirror, when you face yourself on a morning, before you think that thought you’ve always had about yourself. Pause.
Take a minute.
Look at the woman staring back at yourself and think ‘I’m proud of her’.
Look how far you’ve come! Look at all the steps you’ve taken in spite of the challenges that you’ve gone through or battles you’ve been faced with. Wow. You are incredible! How brave, even when it got really tough. Even when the comparison felt all too much, look at you! What strength it’s taken to be who you are today.
Your internal narrative is so important, and I’m here to tell you that you’ve got this.
You are so worthy, valuable and strong.
You deserve to think good thoughts about yourself that help to define your day into a day that you can walk into with your head held high knowing you are an absolute queen.
So look into that mirror, and smile back.
